Frog House
(Wilp Lax See'l)
The House of the Distant Past
The Frog House focuses on the lifestyle of the Gitxsan
people before contact with the outside world. The Longhouse of the
Distant Past was a bustle of activity, during the winter with up
to sixty inhabitants within its walls. Families made their spring
and summer homes outside, close to their work areas. The longhouses
and totem poles are carved and decorated with crests and images.
Those who paddled the river could learn, from the edifices and poles,
the clan's identity and history.
